Valley garages work harder than most. With no basement and little attic access, the garage takes the overflow: tools, camping gear, broken patio furniture, old tile left over from a remodel, boxes nobody has opened since the last move. Heat is part of the story, too. Cardboard goes soft, plastic bins turn brittle, and anything that was left sitting for years has had a rough time in a space that can pass 110 degrees in summer.

Most of the time a garage cleanout is a mix of things you know you want gone and things you haven't looked at in years. You walk the garage, point at what stays, and we haul the rest. Some customers want the entire space emptied to bare concrete. Others want a path to the car again and a clear wall for shelves. Both are the same job at a different scale.

A DIY garage cleanout usually starts well and slows down by the third hour, with piles across the driveway and a freezer and a stack of lumber offcuts still to place. A pickup doesn't hold a garage. Two or three runs to the dump means two or three mornings in the heat, a line at the scale, and a truck bed to unload by hand each time.

The heavy pieces make it worse. A chest freezer, a weight bench, a workbench bolted to the wall and a pile of drywall off-cuts are all awkward to move alone. Add a hot driveway and a long afternoon, and it's easy to see why a lot of garages stay half cleaned for another year.

You call or fill out the form and tell us what's in there and how full it is. A garage with a clear path to the door is quicker than one stacked to the ceiling with a narrow walkway, and we ask about that. We handle the lifting. Items come out of the garage, off the shelves and from the corners, and go on the trailer in order. Paint, chemicals and old tires are the exceptions in a garage, so set those aside for a disposal site that takes them. When the floor is clear we sweep it out, so you're looking at a garage again and not a dusty outline of where everything sat.

In summer, mornings work better, when the garage is cooler and the work goes faster. Same-day or next-day pickup is possible when the schedule allows, and a call before noon gives you the best chance.

Usable items, like working tools, sports gear and furniture in decent shape, go to donation or resale when the condition allows. Metal, cardboard and electronics are separated and recycled. Appliances with refrigerant go to a facility that recovers it properly. The rest goes to licensed disposal facilities. Not everything can be donated, and a bin of cracked plastic and broken shelving goes to disposal.

When the garage is full, the shed behind it usually is too. Backyard sheds collect the same things plus whatever lives in the yard: old pots, broken sprinklers, a lawn mower that stopped working, hoses, tarps and rusted tools. A shed is small, but it's hard to work inside because of the heat and the lack of room. We empty it out, one load at a time if need be, and haul everything away.

Attics here are a hard place to work. In summer, the air under the roof climbs past anything you would call comfortable, so attic cleanout work happens in the morning. The old boxes, rolled carpet, insulation scraps, Christmas decorations, luggage and forgotten furniture were all put up there through a scuttle hatch or a pull-down ladder. They come back out the same way, one awkward armful at a time.
